Smoke-free University -
but in our labs there live smoking moths!
The lastest news of FZI's "division of curiosity-guided research" is:
There are moths which emit an aerosol from their abdomen when they are disturbed. Of course, we have started to investigate the nature of the 'smoke', its glandular basis and its role in inter- and/or intraspecific communication. For the time being, we do not release more details perhaps the study will lead to applications in the context of biomimetics, and to patents ....
Currently, we are investigating a moth found during our studies at EBN which is emitting an aerosol.
